Liquid Silicone Rubber

You know that Protogenic makes extensive use of silicone, primarily for tools used to form cast polyurethanes.   In fact RTV molding is one of our specialties here, and something we've become very good at over the years, turning your files in to hard or soft multiples with cast-in color, texture, even FR materials.   We also can pour prototype quantities in actual silicone, using either acrylic or Shore A urethanes for the molds, depending on the geometry.

But where the real action happens is on the production end of things, and the guys at our sister company in Connecticut have proven to be real masters of liquid silicone rubber (LSR) molding and liquid injection molding (LIM).  Parts range from LED lenses, to baby bottle nipples, to handle over-molds, and of course seals and sealing membranes.

In August of 2009 the LSR experts from our Connecticut facility collaborated to write a technical paper about Liquid Silicond and Liquid Silicone Rubber molding, which reveals several secrets about this very special process.
